The Presence of Peace and Joy

screen-shot-2016-12-03-at-8-32-58-pmSuddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:13-14

A busy fall has just begun, another school year with too many students and not enough classrooms nor teachers and, to make matters worse, complaining parents. Suddenly I hear my oldest daughter Kayden practicing her piano, and what song is she playing? Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

I realize that with the arrival of fall, soon the Advent season will be upon us. Sometimes it takes young minds to get us back on track. We stopped for a moment, and together as a family, we prepared dinner. We sat down and talked about the things we wanted to do for Advent.

Each year our family gets into the busy part of Christmas such as shopping, cooking, and outings. Now to add to it all is soccer practice, acting class, and piano lessons. We made a decision to spend more time to take a moment, stop, and reflect about the season. Kayden will remind us when she starts playing the Christmas hymns on the piano. We will take the time to just sit and listen with the lights from the Christmas tree shining forth. And on top of the tree the lit star which led the Shepherds to the Christ child.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the peace of the season. Help us all experience the meaning of the season. Lead us to stop, listen, and reflect. In the name of the Prince of Peace, your son Jesus Christ. Amen.
